日系2世のアーティスト、ルース・アサワのドキュメンタリーを見た。以前から作品は知っていたものの、その生涯や背景に触れるのは初めてで、深く引き込まれた。彼女は第二次大戦中の日系人強制収容所で、同じく収容されていたディズニーのアニメーターから絵を学んだという。逆境をアートへの扉へと転換した彼女の強さに胸を打たれると同時に、ふと思った。僕の曽祖父の家族もまた、あの時代、同じ場所にいたのかもしれない、と。

最近使う生成AIは3つほどに絞られた。その一つ、Geminiの強みは「知能の高さより、UXのフリクションレス(摩擦のなさ)」を追求している点だ。個人利用において我々は、説教や融通の利かないファクトチェックは不要だし、時に「正解」さえ求めていない。この「ザラつき(違和感)のないコミュニケーション/インターフェイス」の設計力こそ、今のデザインやサービス開発に最も問われている。アートや創作においては、違和感は大事な要素だけれど。

ラスタファリズムで言う「イスラエル12支族」という概念は、迷えるアフリカ系ジャマイカの人々(特に貧困層)のことであって、現在騒がせている国家イスラエルとは関係がない。”Get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir / So that every mouth can be fed”(朝起きて、パンのために奴隷のように働く。みんなの腹が満たせるように。)というこの曲がヒットしたのは、僕が生まれる1年前。そんなに昔のことでもない。
