トランプのSNS投稿という、現代社会で最も信じてはいけないものに世界中が右往左往している。だが、これはもはや彼のせいではない。それに過剰反応する側の責任だ。彼の投稿をソースにコピペ記事を書く輩を「ジャーナリスト」と呼び、その一喜一憂にレバレッジをかけてギャンブルに励む輩を「投資家」と呼ぶのは、さすがに定義が劣化しすぎだろう。と、そんな「どうでもいい現象」について、わざわざ今キーボードを叩いている自分も、過剰反応か(笑)

映画『マネーボール』で一躍有名になったアスレチックス。現在は低迷しているが、ビリー・ビーンによる「データを活用した選手起用」は当時は画期的だった。「良い選手を獲得する資金力のなさ」よりも「得点力のなさ」が真の問題だと気付くのに統計が役立ったという訳だ。メディアやSNSで人気者のアーティスト生活を夢見るのも悪くないが、「独立した音楽家として持続可能なキャリアを築く」ことを優先するならば、統計の知識は味方になってくれる。

(編集・再掲)何年かおきに、小倉を訪ねたくなる最大の理由は「松本清張記念館」があるから。僕にとってあの場所は、40歳を過ぎたデビューから700超の作品を遺した、彼の驚異的な創作力を肌で感じられる「パワースポット」なのだ。創作の原動力となったハングリーさや闘志、そして劣等感。人類が月や火星へ行く時代になっても、これらはお金で買うことはできない。芥川賞受賞作の『或る「小倉日記」伝』は、ずっしり重い初期の傑作。
