“Cosmic Funk Expo 2: Vintage Electronic Jazz Funk Vibes,” the latest release under the moniker of MER, is a compilation album that captures the atmosphere of jazz-funk, which captivated the globe in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and elevates it into the realms of modern electronic music and R&B. With bouncy beats, undulating synth bass, and percussive slap bass creating tight grooves; the music is further enhanced by arrangements of spacey synths, piano, and brass. This album is packed with the euphoria, futuristic spirit, and mellowness unique to crossover jazz of that era. Blending a vintage aesthetic reminiscent of modern hip-hop, R&B, and vaporwave, the album features 13 completely original tracks—no samples from existing recordings were used.
