Album Description

MER, a creative imprint and artist project under Model Electronic Records, was originally created for the film and broadcasting industry and has earned strong recognition from music supervisors across the United States, Japan, and beyond. The series became available to a broader audience with the public release of “Anti-Crime Breaks” on Apple Music, Spotify, and other platforms.

“Cyber City Connection: Urban Synthwave and Electro Funk” is, as the title suggests, a compilation themed around cyberpunk and sci-fi culture that dominated the 1980s and has recently been reevaluated and developed in movies and video games. Inspired by the futuristic worldviews that have spawned diverse forms of expression from novels and Hollywood films to Japanese manga and animation, the album features new arrangements of existing tracks from various monikers as well as new tracks under the MER name. Unlike typical “cyberpunk” works that often focus solely on the dark dystopian worlds seen in foreign films and games, this compilation sets itself apart by incorporating the exhilaration, urbanity, and romantic atmosphere unique to Japanese 80s culture.
