Mac OSが今で言うクラシック環境だった頃、とても個性的で、しかも重宝し、しかも殆ど誰も知らない(笑)音声合成ソフトがあった。数年に一度はそのソフトを再び使いたくなるのだが、Basilisk IIというエミュレーターとMac OS 7.5.3のディスク(!)などを用意して下準備をしなければならないため、毎回思い立っては即座に挫折する。OE『Physical Fiction』や『New Classics Vol.2』に収録されている曲でよく用いた。

先日、池上彰さんが「嫌いな言葉は『真実』」と話しているのを見て、すぐに思い出したのは、トランプが設立したSNS「トゥルース・ソーシャル」だった。「真実と虚偽は顔が似ている。我々は欺瞞を拒む根性がないばかりか、むしろ自ら進んで罠に飛び込んでいく。虚しいことに、巻き込まれるのが好きなのだ。」モンテーニュがこう説いたのは、16世紀半ば。

OE『Letting Go』に続く作品が完成。今はそのさらに次の作品に向けて、リサーチやアイデア集めに没頭中。思えば音楽のキャリアを始めてから5年くらいまでは、自分の作品の中で知られるようになった数曲だけで、音楽性やスタイルを頭ごなしに決めつけられたりジャッジされることに猛烈な抵抗を感じていた。あれから四半世紀近く経ち、制作した曲は1,000を超え、様々な国の人たちが自分の様々な音楽を楽しんでくれている。当時の葛藤も、今となっては笑い話。
